Carrot Leaves and Beet

Went shopping today and decided to try fresh carrots and beet. These carrots came with their leaves too; indicating that they are fresh-- the longer you leave (pun intended) the carrot with the leaves it tends to draw moisture and vitamins from the root. Looked up the internet on how to cook the leaves; they are bitter but edible with a lot of nutrients, and found some vague recipes and indicators that they can be eaten. So i stir fried the leaves, chopped finely, and the carrots in butter plus some bacon for flavouring.

Next I added chicken broth made from our Maggi stock plus water and that goes into the pan. Chicken was added and its now on my stove boiling as we speak. :) Tonight I will try to make some salad, with beet, beet leaves, leftover carrot leaves, iceberg, hard boiled egg, and bits of sliced bacon tossed in light vinagrette. I hope its yum.

Anyways, this reminded me of my outing with my friend Winata. He was surprised I could cook even though I never really cooked before coming here. He said some Singaporean guys when they first came here could not get used to the lifestyle of cooking it oneself and ate out. He too had that but less because Rupiah do not go a long way. Trivia: It costs 500 rupiah for some sweets :)

Wow, after I heard that I realised that my value up already-- anyone wants a Chinese hubby? It was not too difficult for me, Sheryl did not react the way I did when I tried my friend's chicken. She say pretty good so I guess being Penangite does bestow some special sense in cuisine. Maybe she said it to make me feel better... lol. Ok my soup is ready by now.

Pretty good, carrots are tender and the chicken is just right (breasts tend to get too rubbery if cooked long-- hence I always like drumsticks) plus the weird smell of the leaves are gone. I do not say that I am Iron Chef quality but I think for edible and decent food I am ok which is in fact not too bad for a beginner.

Please praise me while I have my dinner. :P
